Our last spotlight on London coworking spaces took us to Hoxton. This time around we will be focusing on locations centred on Liverpool Street, Clerkenwell and the City of London. The Clerkenwell area has been associated with swish design companies and agencies, for quite awhile, and so much so that it seems obligatory to be wearing a pair of trendy glasses when walking around the area. As a result it would appear to be a perfect place to set up coworking spaces as a way to attract the local creative community.

After WWll, Clerkenwell suffered from industrial decline, but it is now known as one of the more upscale and trendy districts in central London. A square mile that is stepped in history and tradition as London’s long historic centre for global capital, finance and commerce. But times are changing and there are now signs of very smart and elegant locations tapping into the growing coworking ethos in the City. Modern locations are merging with historic old buildings to provide enviable working spaces, which are particularly suited to individuals and businesses that want to be near the heart of London’s pulse.

Coworking in Clerkenwell

Club Workspace

This coworking space is located in Farringdon, and is just one of a number of Club Workspaces around London. There are currently 5 Club Workspaces, with two more to be introduced later this year, which will be on Chancery Lane and City Road. A range of companies, focused primarily on creative projects, have been attracted to the elegant and well catered for Clerkenwell working environments.

When the weather is agreeable there is a great courtyard and a café for those wanting a little alfresco life incorporated into their working day. The popular ‘suitcases desks’ available in Bankside and Chiswick locations, have been specifically designed for locations like this and incorporate lockable space with lights, power sockets and Ethernet ports.

Purple Patch

Purple Patch is an attractive workspace situated in Clerkenwell that also offers a range of additional benefits and services for clients. For instance, if you have printing requirements or need IT support you will have access to production and technical specialists.

Drawing on the knowledge and expertise of over ten years in the creative business industries Purple Patch offers on and off site facilities management. The founder of Purple Patch, Gary Hoxby, is well acquainted with London's creative business community, so he is very much in tune with what these kinds of companies need and want.

Open 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, Purple Patch is perfect for workaholics and relaxed coworkers alike.

The City

Co-Work City

Co-Work City has a premium open-plan office, which shares workspace and private offices in the City of London. No deposits or minimum stay are required. Extremely easy on the eye environments are merging workspaces with relaxing down time touches, like the indoor putting green. This is another example of a high quality coworking location around London that place an optimum on eye-catching design.

Innovation Warehouse

Innovation Warehouse prides itself on offering a platform for startups, many of which have seen success, due to the collaborative environment offered at the space. IW taps into existing networks, such as business schools and universities, as a way to strengthen the connections to their own organization. Encouraging business growth through technology and team building, Innovation Warehouse also runs an Accelerator Academy programme for “ambitious digital entrepreneurs looking to grow their business, through training, mentoring and access to capital.”

There are two main coworking options and packages available at the Innovation Warehouse based in Spitafields. The drop-in membership allows access to use the hot desks for up to 10 hours, during the normal business times, over the course of a month and also a fair use basic access to the members meeting room. “Hive” package members get their own desks.

The Office Group

The Office Group have a number of locations around London, including their first foray into flexible coworking with a building on Throgmorton Street in the City, called 'ClubRooms'. This location used to be the offices of the London Stock Exchange and has retained many of the original 19th century features whilst adapting to create a more contemporary modern work environment.

A lot of emphasis has been placed on the quality of design and the City location does indeed impressively stand out with sumptuous layouts that visually would grace any glossy coffee table design magazine. Office Group buildings also have a commitment to environmentally friendly standards.

At your disposal at Wanford Court are 10 meeting rooms, conference space, kitchens on all floors, showers, a library/informal meeting area and even an apartment at the top floor in case you need to be ‘fresh early or just fancy a night in the City’.
