The day when the doors open

“A lot of people are excited about the space and tell us all the time how much they love it,” said Ballas. As for the inevitable challenges faced when opening a new coworking space, Ballas told us that “it’s a bit like car shopping” and that it's not always easy to get people to officially register. WorkDistrict told Deskmag that they have seen hundreds of individuals visit the space, and have found the most success with small companies, since they are usually looking for a place where they can collaborate and network at the same time.

Cowork in Grenoble, opened only 2 weeks ago, and is already seeing a lot of movement and energy within the space. First the coworkers arrived and one startup is already going to be launched. “It was even not organized, simply spontaneous. We just met this entrepreneur with an idea and proposed him to start a dedicated coach session without asking any money. The entrepreneur was even surprised by such a community spirit,” said Mathieu.

Just last week, Pun Space opened in Chaing Mai. Although they had only been open less than a week when we talked with Euam and Vichaya, they told Deskmag that people were so excited about the new coworking space, that they have had a full-house ever since opening their doors.

As we interviewed Rana just 10 days after its opening, Alonso said that there were already 5 entrepreneurs per day coming to visit the space, which is a lot when comparing it to the 10 desk availability. Rana's founders want it to be a familiar place where people can create projects using the coworking model, and they don’t want to make a business out of the space. “Rana is our space and we want to share it with other entrepreneurs. That’s why it is very important to select the people wisely and trying not to mix entrepreneurs who work on the same areas to avoid competition,” explained Alonso.

What does the future look like?

As for the future, WorkDistrict is already planning to open a code school, which would be a great platform for developers of all kinds. They want to teach classes to those already involved in the tech community, and to those who are looking to spruce up their skillset. In the meantime, before they find a designated space for the school, they are planning to teach a class or two out of their coworking space.

Cowork in Grenoble is now aiming to organize plenty of events to become a real startup accelerator. Their next step is to provide entrepreneurs with tools and the coaching that they can’t actually find but that they absolutely need.

Rana is now showing its coworking space to everyone and are making a course plan. Since it's a big place, they want it to be a very "lively" environment and they want that as soon as possible.

Finally, if you find yourself in Chaing Mai, or you are planning a vacation, be sure to check out Pun Space, because they are having a free trial period for the entire month of March. There are 28 open desks available and private office for those looking to hit the ground running with their business.
