Yardi Kube: A single connected platform for flexible workspace management
Yardi Kube
September is full of events for coworking spaces, coworkers and people who want to get involved with coworking. One of those is a national Coworking Week which is hosted by more than twenty coworking spaces across Germany to increase awareness of the movement. Britain is fast becoming the land of Jellies, with more than sixty of them held across the UK next month. Another good way for coworkers and coworking spaces to promote their ideas and to become more visible to a broader audience is via the Social Media Week, which takes place simultaneously across eleven cities worldwide; simply create a topic, and invite people into your space.

Social Media Week (worldwide)

Social media is all about participating, networking and spreading new ideas. Sounds familiar? Coworking is of course something different, as it is locally rooted and personal. But there are plenty of common connections between the two trends. Quite apart from the fact that hardly any coworking space can exist without its own social media channels.

For those space managers, and many others besides, the dates September 19-23 are important. That’s when eleven cities worldwide will host Social Media Week – including coworking centers like Berlin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Milan, São Paulo and Vancouver. The event is open and distributed, meaning anyone can propose and host a session of their own. Coworking spaces are welcome to come up with a topic, find speakers, select a date, and insert it into the program. Just sign up and invite people. Participation is free, for both event hosts and attendees – unlike usual social media conferences, which require registration fees.

September 19-23: Beirut, Berlin, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Glasgow, Los Angeles, Milan, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Vancouver - Free of admission

Coworking Week (Germany)

More than twenty coworking spaces will take part in the second country-wide week of coworking promotion and discussion, which runs from the 19th to 25th of September.

This is one of the biggest national coalitions of coworking, something not found in any other country aside from Italy. Coordinating between so many independent spaces isn’t always easy, but the goal is worthwhile: collectively they want to introduce this new way of collaborative working to people from traditional office environments. It will also result in increased media attention.

Participating coworking spaces will open their doors for lectures and workshops on various topics, such as crowdsourcing, web working, business creation, prototyping and sharing. There will be a calendar of breakfasts, lunches and parties. You can find all the information at www.coworkingweek.de (from next week on), where there is also information for other spaces that want to participate.

September 19-25: Across Germany - General admission is free

UK Jelly

Jellies are informal and free meet-ups for collective work. They function much like coworking, but happen usually more once a month rather than every day. These occasional gatherings offer an opportunity to freelancers, small business owners or any individual who wants to swap their home office for a collaborative atmosphere, at least for a short period.

Although the Jelly concept originated in the U.S., it has especially developed in the U.K., where a national movement has sprung up. There are more than 60 individual organizers who put on regular Jellies each month.

Apart from their large number, another thing that distinguishes the U.K. Jelly scene from other countries, and even from coworking spaces, is their location. Many of them are held outside of major cities, but rather in regional and rural areas. And there is a higher proportion of older entrepreneurs who take part in Jellies. Aside from coworking spaces, Jellies are held in hotels, internet cafes, yoga studios, innovation centers, labs and corporate offices.

Meet-ups take place monthly in over 50 different locations across the U.K. - General admission is free
